Feature Requests

What features do you want to see in Screencast-O-Matic?

  1. Add Rotation to Image Overlays

It would be nice to be able to rotate images overlays so they can be at an angle in the video. Also maybe the option to flip images horizontally.

  4. Ability to hide/minimize recording area border and buttons

Oftentimes I will start a recording and then get sidetracked on something else… Once a recording is started it is impossible to get rid of the recording area border and recording controls… It would be nice if I could hide those temporarily while I finished up my sidetrack.

    Thanks for considering this feature.

  5. Top bar below 'My Uploads', making as static, like freezing.

When we select show more, the page keeps on scrolling down instead can we make the top bar belwo the My uploads like freez, so that, when there are more videos then it is easy for viewing along with the top titles

This part is showing with the mouse in the video:

  6. Blurred Area Tracking

I do a lot of interface training and, in order to use real-world examples, I make heavy use of the blur tool to mask out sensative areas or details. The problem is that, as I scroll down the page, I have to then manually adjust the blurred area. It would be awesome if I could mark an area on my screen for blurring before recording, and then, as I scroll, some script keeps my actions in check and keeps that blurred area in relation to how I move across the web page. This would make my job a lot easier,…

  7. Create a corporate-friendly version of the software that installs all files in Program Files instead of AppData.

Create a corporate-friendly version of the software that installs all files in Program Files instead of AppData. Then, have it optionally prompt the user when new updates are available and an IT administrator can install new versions. Otherwise, secure/corporate systems have a lot of trouble with the software. Also it would be helpful to have a feature to disable (via GPO) uploading to the cloud, so that it's designed to primarily work with local files. Thanks!

  8. Full offline installer to avoid Internet connection requirement.

    Hello.

I have limited and slow Internet access and noticed Screencast-O-Matic required an Internet connection to download updates, encoder (MP4), etc.

There needs to be a full installer to download to avoid these downloads, so I can use the installed Screencast-O-Matic without the Internet. I only need to record short videos of my desktops offline.

    Thank you in advance. :)

  9. Better frame rate support

My online education site that I use this great piece of software for is now accepting 1080p 60fps. It would be great to be able to deliver this high quality HD format now.

Also, it would be nice to be able to change the FPS. It's not a big deal breaker but it outputs 25fps and sometimes I mix it with other USA standard 30fps or even 60fps.

  10. Enable Function keys as hotkeys

I have a hard time going to the next voice over item when I am typing for my tutorials, because I have to click out of the text editor so that my hotkeys will work in screen-o-matic. it would be awesome if I could map a function key that would work as a hot key no matter what I was working on.

  11. Add border around video box

I've just subscribed to the pro version and am loving your software. (until now, I've been using Camtasia), but I love how you can drag the PIP video around while recording. This saves a LOT of time in post production. Would be AWESOME if you could add the ability to add a solid border around the PIP video. This would help to make it standout more within screen cast vids.

  13. Bring "Publish Screen Shots" option to v2.0

I really loved this tool, I used for all my training documents. It worked so well. Now I'm stuck.

  14. Ability To Upload Directly To Facebook

Since Facebook now allows you to upload videos directly to your facebook page and has a new feature that allows the uploaded video to start playing automatically....it would be awesome to be able to upload the video directly from ScreencastOMatic to Facebook. This would save time and make the videos more popular and make ScreencastOMatic a more valuable tool.

  16. Scale the Mouse when Zooming

I've been noticing that if the screen is zoomed in post production to focus in a certain area of the screen that the mouse cursor stays the same size. It would be nice to scale the mouse at the same rate that the screen is scaled.

  17. Recording window follows mouse

Oftentimes I find it difficult to move the recording window around on my screen to the places where I want to record… There's no easy handle to drag it around while you are recording… I know this might look kind of unprofessional in a finished recording… But that's okay because lots of my recordings are just for self documentation.

I'm using a MacBook Pro retina display… If I am recording in HD 1080 the actual window size on my screen is still quite small… This requires me to shrink down my browser if I'm recording my browser to fit inside…

  18. Full screen mode for games

Maybe this feature works and I just can't get it too but.. the recorder doesn't work if you open a video game in full screen. I would be even happier with your great product if it could overlap on top of full screen and still show the camera and record footage. If this feature works and I just don't know about it, please write back.

  19. include the drawing tool with the full screen recording controls.

    Specific to v. 2
The drawing tool is included when you begin recording screen areas other than full screen, which is awesome! I think it should also be included in the full screen record controls so the hot-key doesn't have to be used. I also think the highlighter should be freehand, not rectangular. I'm a very proud user of the program! Keep up the good work!

  20. Ability to draw the recording area

Just like Jing, I would like to select the recording area by first clicking in the top left corner of the rectangle, then in the bottom right corner. That means that I can start recording in three clicks. Using your current method, I spend a lot more clicks and I also need to hit the corners to drag them to the right place. Very tedious.
