You can export recordings from v1 then import them into v2.
Have a setting to auto stop a recording. One setting could simply be time - stop after so many 00:00:00 (hours/minutes/seconds) Better would be to ascertain if anything is actual changing on the screen and if not, stop the recording. This would allow someone to begin a lengthy recording and walk away knowing that the recording will be done when they return.5 votes
You can setup a custom Max Time when you start the recorder so it will stop after that time is reached.
When the installer runs it installs for the currently logged on users. Ideally, there'd be an option to install for all users so whoever logs on to the particular workstation can launch screen cast from 1 single shortcut.1 vote
This is how the new v2 beta install works. Its only for Pro users at this time but we will also offer a free version at some point like we do for v1.
I tried the new Beta. Seems my music ran out of time during my recording and there wasn't a function to loop the song. If you can add that function would be great. Also a blur option to keep a blur area for the whole video. Having to manually put it in certain times is time wasting. Maybe a click button will appear them manually make like a quick square... I hope I'm not confusing you lol.1 vote
You can now add looping to the background music in v2.0.
I really need to record in 4K quality because it will make my overall videos better and attract more viewers and subscribers to my channel, resulting in a happier me. I've been using screencast for over a year now and it is by far the best and easiest to use screen recording software but if you put 4K in then screencast would get so many more users. the only other thing i can think of is the watermark on the bottom left, please make it a little smaller or just remove it.2 votes
You can record fullscreen on a 4k monitor but it might not be the best option when sharing with many users that don’t have such a large monitor.
It seems nice the Ctrl+Z feature in SOM tool, allowing users to undo your recent changes.1 vote
The v2.0 editor uses standard undo/redo hotkeys for mac and windows.
Part of meeting accessibility requirements to provide option to turn on or off closed captioning by clicking a CC button, etc. For some viewers, captions interfere with processing, for others they are necessary. Can interface provide option?4 votes
I make a video of me talking over the top of it but also want to add a track of music low in the background next to my voice to sweeten tutorials and eliminate background noise / fuzz (the music will help with this)11 votes
The 2.0 Pro Recorder allows you to add background music
would love the ability to pull in recordings from my iphone and edit them and use them with screencast footage.1 vote
You can import MP4 video from other sources to edit.
When editing som video before exporting, I would like to add outside video in avi format.3 votes
You can now use the Insert Video option to insert MP4 video (but not AVI)
It would be nice if we could delete any edit we've made, not just the latest one we performed. Thanks11 votes
You can do this in v2.0
service is incredible! but u need to redisign your site1 vote
New Site release Nov 2015
See image for further details:
The interface was completely redesigned for version 2.0. Please see this video: http://help.screencast-o-matic.com/channels/coQnrrQLZ#details-play-coQnrwf58U
I seen this feature on a youtube tutorial and thought it could be a cool feature. Its at 9 minutes into the tutorial and the bit I am talking about is at 9.06 minutes.
Basically rather then zooming into an area, what it seems to do is use a frame as a background image and then pop up a cutout of a smaller area that is being worked on.1 vote
This is an option with the Highlight overlay in v2.0 editing tools: http://som.screencasthost.com/v2-tools-overlay-highlight
I find that the recorded volume on many of the videos I record is too low. If you could add the ability to increase or decrease the volume in the editing section of the video that would be awesome!5 votes
You can use the new Volume tool in v2.0 or bring the levels up for the entire video as shown in this tutorial:
I find SOM a wonderful tool and we recommend it to our customers to record their PC based problems they are experiencing with our products and software and then upload the video. This has a few issues - one is that customers have to send us the file, which can often be too large to send over email (nor do we like getting them send to our CRM system mail address.) The second issue is that if they don't email them, they have to post them and we don't want our customers content posted publicly to the internet, nor do we want our name (for SEO reason) posted to youtube videos with "problems".
So, a good solution (and we'd pay more for this function) would be for us to be able to send the user directly to a personalize URL, where they would be allowed to record a screencast and when complete, instead of uploading to one of their accounts (or saving locally), they would enter their email address and any other details (such as a CRM ticket number for reference) and then an email would be generated from SOM, back to our email address indicating that a customer had posted a support video for us to review.
This way the video is always posted privately (the website should likely mention that), the customer doesn't have to figure out how to get the video to us or sign up for something they don't want to and we have notification when the problem is posted.

This is supported with our Team Pro Hosting option.
Instead of adding noise to silent sections, I'd rather have Screencast-O-Matic filter noise from the recording. Right now I use Audacity to perform that step, but it would be a lot more convenient if Screencast-O-Matic did that for me.6 votes
The v2.0 of the recorder has remove noise option which is enabled by default: http://som.screencasthost.com/v2-edit-audio
I went here:
and saw this: "Java Plugin Needed"
Most sane developers disable Java. Especially Mac developers (after a recent attack on an iOS dev site). Please use an alternative. Otherwise, it's a great idea. Thanks!15 votes
The link referred to is an older upload. All new uploads hosted on our site playback with html5 or flash.
I work for a school that is going 1:1 chromebooks. I use your service with students quite often and have been looking for a screencasting solution that will work with Chromebooks.272 votes
